Hand made ULTEM feeder prototype for writing test

by Eureka_Admin

Today I made a rough prototype ULTEM feeder for writing test.

there was a feedback email from a customer.

he had experience with ULTEM feeder, and warned me about ULTEM's poor hydrophilicity.

due to that, he experienced either very limited or no ink flow, or sometimes too much flow.

so the ULTEM feeder could be unstable.

I was leaning towards using ULTEM for the titanium nib, since I could boost production and reduce end price for customers.

I was very concered about the ULTEM's poor hydrophlicity, so I hand made one for rough testing.

My hand made prototype ULTEM feeder has very rough ink channel design, rather ludimentary.

So, the only overflow control is done by the heart hole alone.

sometimes it would overflow because of this. But this is due to simple channel design.

One of the findings is, although ULTEM is by default not hydrophlic, it is indeed possible to make it very hydrophilic by utilizing specific machining process.

Some type of machining process also makes it hydrophobic, but only a specific type of machining process seems to work.

So, when I develop the production model all the channels will only use specific processes that will cause hydrophilicity.

Consequently, I concluded that it is possible to make a stable performing with ULTEM feeder.

Although the actual result can only be confimed with an actual production model.

It is possible that the ULTEM feeder can fail.

So I will develop the production process in such a way, that both ULTEM and Ebonite material can be used.

Thank you.
